I’ve just recently retired from teaching full-time as a professor (of travel and tourism) in Canada so am looking forward to satisfying my travel addiction along with meeting people from different cultures. With the belief that life is full of amazing and wonderful things and with a strong shot of curiosity, I always want to keep on learning.
Some of my interests include gardening, interacting with pets (I have learned from my pets that they do you the honour of being their caregiver), hiking, swimming, bike riding, and I always have a book on the go.
One of my guiding principles is to ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you’ and that definitely includes not just respect for others but also respect for their belongings. I have over the years looked after friends’ homes while they were away, watering their yards and gardens, taking in their mail, walked dogs, fed a variety of pets, etc. but because they were in the same town or city I lived in, I didn’t stay overnight.
I have used AirBnB quite a number of times in my travels, from being in someone else's home for as short a time as one night to as long as a couple of weeks. A couple of summers ago I house/pet sat for a lovely woman who was taking her child on a one month trip and this summer I got to look after a larger property, with a variety of animals and a swimming pool. The first was in a village near Lyon, France and this summer's was near Bordeaux, France. You should hopefully be able to see their reviews of me on this site. Through another site I looked after dozens of orchids in southern Spain a couple of years ago, and their home, but unfortunately, within days of returning to their place from the UK, he died and as he was the primary caregiver of his wife, their family took her back to England as she needed much care. None of their orchids died under my care though but that was only because I meticulously followed his directions.
If you’re looking for someone who will do their best to follow your wishes as to how you’d like your pets looked after in your absence (so that they’ll miss you but not too much) and as to how you’d like your home and property taken care of, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have and I’ll also be glad to attach some of the AirBnB hosts' reviews for your perusal where you can see if I would suit you. Carla s'est montrée très investie dans sa mission de soins donnés à nos différents animaux ( chats, cochons d'inde, hamster, lapin, poissons) , elle nous a donné des nouvelles régulièrement et n'a pas hésité à poser des questions pour répondre au mieux aux besoins de chacun. Nous les avons retrouvés en pleine forme grâce à elle . Elle s'est bien occupée des nos plantes, du jardin , de la maison et de l'entretien de la piscine. A notre retour, un long mot de bienvenue ainsi qu'une fleur et une bonne quiche nous attendaient !Très intéressée par les aspects touristiques de notre région , elle a visité avec plaisir les lieux culturels tout en prenant du temps pour nos animaux. Nous recommandons vivement Carla qui est charmante et très intéressante ! Notre diner en sa compagnie nous a ravi ! Nous espérons avoir de ses nouvelles et nous lui souhaitons d'autres agréables séjours . Sabine et Olivier

Carla est vraiment une personne très sympa et très sérieuse. Elle s'est occupée de ma maison et des animaux (2 chats et un chien ) vraiment très bien.Nous avons passé quelques jours ensemble, Carla est vraiment adorable,intéressée par tout un tas de choses... Pour notre retour,elle nous avait fait des courses,laissé un bouquet de fleurs sur la table...bref,autant d'attentions qui adoucissent un retour de voyage ! Je recommande Carla....c'est vraiment une personne digne de confiance et en plus,hyper agréable! Première expérience pour moi de home sitting vraiment réussie, je réitérerai!
